Wingate, NC --
National Signing Day: A day in which hundreds of players across the country sign their National Letters of Intent to go and play for various colleges and universities. It is a day of rejoicing as players see their hard work pay off officially, and college programs find out which recruits they will have the pleasure of having for sure in the Fall. It was no different in the case of Wingate University Women's Soccer this year. Nine student-athletes chose to play for Wingate University under the direction of Chip Wiggins. These 9 players have all come from different walks of life, come from various parts of the country, and play at all different levels of soccer. But, they do all have one thing in common. All 9 players that signed today were past attendees of the annual WISA Women's Adidas College Showcase. Some of them had been attending the camp since their freshman year, while others attended for a year or two.
The WISA Women's Adidas College Showcase has become an integral part of recruiting for the Women's team at Wingate because it allows coaches to really get to know players both on and off of the field over the course of 5 days. With recruiting budgets being tight for most programs, coaches arent able to really expend a lot of money to travel to the biggest tournaments outside of their region. This showcase has allowed Coach Wiggins and the rest of his staff to see talented athletes from around the country, and has proved fruitful in the past years. This upcoming summer is shaping up to be yet another phenomenal success in terms of recruiting and finding top-talented athletes from outside the region, as well as within.
